Call of Duty: Modern Warfare January 17 Community Update

As part of Infinity Ward’s push to provide some more communication on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the studio has posted their latest community update highlighting what’s happening with the game.

The new community update highlights new playlists that are coming soon, some of the new things that are on the way, as well as bug fixes the studio is tracking.

Here’s the community update:

It’s been an exciting week, with Shoot House 24/7 making its return, the new “Same Day Delivery” playlist, and some new Gunfight 3v3 action, so let’s get ready for the weekend and take a look at what’s coming in Modern Warfare.

We’re extending Season One, which will now end on February 11th. We’ve got new challenges, items, more game modes, new playlists…and of course, a pretty sweet Crossbow that you can earn by completing a challenge in-game, all coming over the next few weeks. We’ll also be flipping the switch on 2XP, 2X Weapon XP, and 2X Tier Progression events to help you finish up your Officer Ranks and Tiers, just in time for Season Two!

Speaking of XP events, live now until Monday, January 20th, hop online and earn all the XP with 2XP and 2X Weapon XP!

We also kicked off our first developer diary blog with our Cinematics Lead, Jeff Negus. He helps make the cutscenes in Modern Warfare! Want to read his interview, click here!

We’ve also been working on an update that we’re looking to publish to all platforms next week, so be sure to keep an eye out for patch notes!

Last week we revealed our Trello board, a quick and easy way for us to update you on things we’re working on, what’s coming, and any other important information you may need. As we’ve mentioned, it’s not everything we’re working on, but it’s a solid way to see the status of some of the issues you’ve reported.

Stay up to date and check out the Trello board HERE!

Also, as part of our effort to help provide relief towards the devasting bushfires in Australia, we’re donating 100% of Activision’s net proceeds from each purchase of the “Outback” bundle, which we’re renamed the “Outback Relief” pack, across all platforms through January 31st. If you already purchased this pack, your purchase will count towards the donation. Thank to everyone who has purchased the pack so far.

NPD: Modern Warfare is the best selling game of 2019, Call of Duty best selling game of decade

NPD has released the data for the 2019 year for the video game industry in the United States.

Their data has revealed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the best selling game of the year and was the best selling game of December 2019.

The list for December 2019 shows Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at #1 with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order coming in at #2 for the year.

The NPD also showcased the best selling games of the year 2019, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was #1.

The NPD Group also revealed that Call of Duty has been the best selling game in the US in revenue generated for the last 11 years in a row, making it the best selling franchise of all time.

In addition, the NPD Group released the sales results for the last decade, and Call of Duty dominated the charts with 10 games in the top 15 for best selling in the US during the 2010 through 2019 period.

Call of Duty continues to withstand all the competition and generates billions of dollars per year. Activision has continued to release a Call of Duty game every year since the original title in 2003, and the company does not appear to be stopping.

2020 will mark the launch of the next generation of consoles with a new Call of Duty game as well. It won’t be surprised to see Call of Duty #1 this year again.

Modern Warfare Season One Update: New End Date, New Weapon Coming

Infinity Ward has announced an update on Season One of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which began on December 3.

In a social post, Infinity Ward has announced that Season One of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been extended to now end on February 11, 2020, instead of the previously revealed date of February 3.

As part of this extension, Infinity Ward will be adding new items and more to the game with in-game challenges. The new Crossbow weapon will debut during the next few weeks, allowing players to unlock it through challenges.

There will also be new store items for players to buy if they want using Call of Duty Points.

Infinity Ward has planned to add more 2XP, 2X Weapon XP, and 2X Tier Progression events as Season One continues in the game to allow players to level up and finish the Season One rewards before it ends on February 11.

Here’s the note from Infinity Ward:

We’re extending Season One!

Over the next few weeks, a host of new items and challenges will arrive, including an in-game Challenge to earn the new Crossbow weapon, more remixed game modes, new playlists, and more in the Store to discover. To make room for all that activity, we are making a one-time extension of Season One – it’s now ending on February 11. During that time, there will be 2XP, 2X Weapon XP, and 2X Tier Progression to help you finish up your Officer Ranks and Tiers, and get you ready for an exciting Season Two!

Season One debuted on December 3 as the “biggest free content drop in Call of Duty history” with three fan favorite maps, new Gunfight maps, and more released thus far.

With this mind, Season Two will now start later in February. More details on Season 2 are expected as the start date gets closer.

Weapon Mastery Calling Cards coming to Modern Warfare

Infinity Ward has stated on Reddit that, after seeing fan requests, they are going to add Weapon Mastery Calling Cards to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Weapon Mastery calling cards were previously in many Call of Duty titles, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Infinity Ward Art Director Joel Emslie replied on Reddit confirming that they’ve now put this feature into development and that it will be released soon.

In visual development now. Then into art production. Then hooked up and scripted. Then testing. Certified. Then pushed out in a near future update. No ETA but we are working on them now.

As noted in the above message, it’s just begun in production, so there’s no ETA for this feature. But fans who’ve wanted more ways to master weapons and unlock more items through gameplay now have Weapon Mastery Challenges to look forward too.

Thanks @TheMW2Ghost for the tip!

This Week in Modern Warfare – New Playlists And More

Activision Blog has shared a new post highlighting what’s coming this week to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

This week will see a playlist update with rotation of modes, new bundles in the shop, and more as Season 1 continues in the game.

Here’s the details from Activision:

This intense Duos game mode is adding in a little more life, one to be specific. Gunfight Trios will be live on January 14. Instead of one partner, you’ll have two when you enter these tight battlegrounds. Use the extra player to your advantage and give it everything you’ve got to best your opponents. Gunfight Trios will be its own playlist and will not replace standard 2v2 Gunfight.

Two game modes return this week in their own playlist. Put some speed in between your kills in Cranked. After your first kills, players are tasked with getting a another or they will explode.  In Drop Zone, players can only earn Killstreaks (a Care Package) by securing and holding the objective.

Rank up your level and your weapons this weekend as Infinity Ward activates Double XP and Double Weapon XP on January 17 at 10 AM PT until January 21 at 10 AM PT. Enjoy the long weekend and see if you can finish off all the challenges, missions, and ribbons available in Season One.
