Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Defender DLC Benefits Charity

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is now available, and if you’ve bought the game and you’re looking to spend a little more money, you can help support veterans in the process. A “Defender Pack” offers in-game items, and 100% of the proceeds will go to the Call of Duty Endowment.

The Call of Duty Blog details the DLC. It includes 11 digital items, headlined by a special Defender .357 revolver variant with three attachments. Those include a rail-mounted sight, a lightweight trigger, and a custom stippled grip. The special optic will be added in the coming weeks, according to the announcement, but the trigger and grip for the Defender are already available.

Aside from the specialized gun, the pack includes an in-game watch with the Endowment logo, weapon camo, a weapon charm, calling card, three specialized emblems, a sticker, and two in-game sprays.

The Call of Duty Endowment is a non-profit organization set up by Activision that helps US and UK veterans find civilian jobs after their service. It has placed 57,000 veterans in jobs since its founding in 2009 and has set the goal of placing 100,000 by 2024.

Ground War Goes Live In Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Tonight

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is officially out, but you may have noticed that not all of the new multiplayer modes are live–noticeably NVG and Ground War. The former was removed from Modern Warfare’s multiplayer rotation ahead of launch in an update. The latter, Ground War, is scheduled to release on all platforms on the night of release day: Friday, October 25.

“Jump into Campaign, Special Ops, and Multiplayer, and starting Friday night grab your friends for Ground War,” Infinity Ward tweeted. “And, for the first time ever, you can earn XP and unlock exclusive gear for Multiplayer and Special Ops through Campaign.”

Currently, the option to select Ground War isn’t even available. When playing multiplayer, you can queue for Quick Play, Gunfight, Cyber Attack, Realism, and Private Match. Infinity Ward did not provide a more specific time for when Ground War would go live other than “tonight.”

For those unaware, Ground War feels like Call of Duty’s answer to Battlefield, putting you on massive maps where huge teams of players–up to 100 or more–fight it out. The maps aren’t just large horizontally either, as they feature plenty of vertical spaces to climb up in to. And to help get around, there are vehicles. Your strategies for Call of Duty’s traditional 6-on-6 or 10-on-10 modes aren’t likely to be very effective in Ground War. You need to play a bit differently to excel.

If Modern Warfare is your first Call of Duty game, don’t worry. We’ve compiled a list of essential beginners tips to best help you succeed. Modern Warfare also sees the return of several characters from the Call of Duty franchise, so if you need a refresher on who’s important and what they each mean for the future, we’ve got you covered.

In GameSpot’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare review, Kallie Plagge wrote, “The pitfalls of Spec Ops don’t detract from what Modern Warfare does well. Realism mode is an excellent addition to the slate, and although not all the new multiplayer modes are great, Gunfight and the Night Vision playlist are refreshing standouts. And while the campaign ends up playing it safe in the end, it’s still a memorable one, and it lays a strong foundation for where the Modern Warfare series could go from here.”

How Long Does Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Campaign Last?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now, bringing the series back to a gritty modern-day theater of war. The campaign tells the story of moral compromises and civilian damage. But how long does it take to see it through?

Before release, Infinity Ward promised that the campaign would last about as long as you’d expect from a Call of Duty game, but that it could vary greatly. In our experience, a playthrough of the campaign lasts 4-5 hours. That was the case regardless of difficulty, so play on the mode that you feel most comfortable with.

Reviews have been hitting right alongside the release of the game, and so far the critical consensus seems fairly positive–if not effusive. That’s also the case in GameSpot’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare review-in-progress, which gave it a score of 7/10. Kallie Plagge said the campaign raises interesting questions but fails to take them to a deeper level.

“Just when it could really make a point about any other aspect of modern war, it pulls back,” the review states. “Modern Warfare makes old observations and presents them with new flourishes. Those new flourishes do make for a good campaign and solid multiplayer. But it’s when Modern Warfare asks you to think harder that it falls short.”

For more on Modern Warfare, check out our essential tips to get you started, and keep in mind that Ground War will go live later tonight.

Thermal Scope in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare cannot see through smoke

There’s an interesting thing with the thermal scope in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Infinity Ward has decided to take a more realistic approach to the entire aspects of the game, and Infinity Ward MP Designer has stated that there’s a change to the thermal scope in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Thermal Scope in Modern Warfare cannot see through smoke, a big change compared to previous Call of Duty games. Infinity Ward says that this is to be more “realistic” for the entire game.

Infinity Ward said “this is not a bug.”

Watch Modern Warfare Twitch streams, get bonus content in-game

Activision has announced a partnership with Twitch to get bonus in game content in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare by just watching your favorite Twitch streamers.

Here’s exactly how:

Step 1: Get a Call of Duty Account

Registering for a Call of Duty account is a relatively easy process that gives you some awesome benefits. Accounts make it possible for cross-play to be enabled in Modern Warfare, and you’ll receive all the latest intel and personalized stats.

Get an account by going here. If you already have an account, you’re all set.

Step 2: Link and Re-link

Once you have a Call of Duty account, connect it to your Twitch Account, so you can start earning!

Go here to link your Call of Duty and Twitch accounts.

If you already have a Twitch account, you must re-link. Re-linking ensures you have enabled the correct permissions, so you can earn rewards.

Go here to re-link your Call of Duty and Twitch accounts.

Step 3: Watch and Earn

Then, you’ll need to head to Twitch and get a look at the streamers who are playing Modern Warfare. On drop eligible streams you’ll see a callout that “drops are enabled”, so you know you are officially watching and earning. From there, click the stream and enjoy the gameplay.

You can watch multiple streamers or one stream but as long as they are “drop eligible” your total watch time will be tallied up, so you can earn rewards.

Are you a Twitch streamer? If you’d like your stream to be eligible to earn rewards follow steps one and two, then make sure you are streaming on the official Modern Warfare Twitch directory.

Step 4: Get the Goods

So, you’ve seen some of the Modern Warfare action and want to know what’s headed to your inventory?

Watching 1 hour – earns the ‘Poison Grapes’ spray

Watching 2 hours – earns the ‘Looking Grim’ emblem

Watching 3 hours – earns the ‘Collect Your Soul’ calling card

Watching 4 hours – earns the ‘Reap This’ weapon charm

Enjoy the streams and the goods that will be waiting in your inventory when you queue up Modern Warfare. After that jump-in and experience the action for yourself.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Campaign Impressions [Spoilers]

Editor’s Note: Activision Publishing provided us with travel and accommodation to Los Angeles for the Modern Warfare review event. We played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PlayStation 4 Pro.

Please note: Our post features spoilers for the campaign. If you’re interested in playing the campaign, please do not need until you complete it. Let us know your thoughts too!

Impressions/Story Begins:

During our review event last week in LA, we had a chance to go hands with the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Campaign. In fact, we got to the entire campaign from start to finish.

Infinity Ward is known for delivering stories that capture people’s attention, stories that have an impact on people, and emotional connection with characters. Infinity Ward’s last title, Infinite Warfare, had one of the best campaigns in Call of Duty history.

Does Modern Warfare’s campaign match up to that?

After our play session: Yes.

Modern Warfare’s campaign is real. Like, Infinity Ward was not messing around when they said they would tackle real events and real moments in this game. The stories and moments that the campaign touches — from real events in the Middle East to conflicts of large foreign powers — is on display in this game.

It’s a campaign that people can actually relate to, and of course, Captain Price is back. It’s a different Captain Price, but as you play, you’ll see how Infinity Ward pays homage to the original character.

The story is very real. You can see how certain real life events inspired this story and its overall goal.

For example, one of the main enemies in the game is ‘The Wolf.’ Infinity Ward tries to make this character almost the ‘Osama Bin Laden’ of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with how big an impact he has on the outcome of certain events. He’s there…and an annoying person who has his hands in everything that happens.

Playing this campaign, I don’t think there is any “No Russian” standout moment that really sticks — there are aspects throughout the game that have this. The waterboarding moments, the child crying, playing as the child, civilians in Piccadilly, and more. The game makes you choose in some situations, and it penalizes you if you make the wrong choice in other cases. The waterboarding moment makes you feel uneasy — the graphics, the effects, and more give you the sense of how horrifying that is.

The game has the emotional aspect that Infinity Ward wanted to deliver. It makes you feel a connection to Farrah and her story and why she fights. Her back story helps explain what’s going through people’s minds in that region who have had their lives uprooted by war. They have to pick up what’s left and fight. The flashback scenes help lay the ground work for the connection for Farrah and even identifies the connection between Price and Farrah.

Let’s talk about the ending. Major Spoilers now.

I was waiting for another mission to happen after what happened between Captain Price and Laswell. He shows the documents of the original Modern Warfare characters, including Gaz, Ghost, and Soap, and it ends?!

Infinity Ward is annoyingly good at making cliffhanger. They know how to keep those endings wide open for the future, especially Call of Duty: Ghosts, which to this day annoys me that we have no real closure to what happened there.

And this story does the same. It leaves it open for….Modern Warfare 2, Part 2? Who knows what they can call their next game. But the ending does leave for a lot of possibilities. We don’t even know what can happen next, and I was really hoping for one more mission with Soap and Ghost to really drive home the overall connection back to Modern Warfare, but it does not happen. You don’t get to see Soap or Ghost in this game, which was a bit sad.

And this is the first time that the campaign mode goes beyond just the campaign with a continuation of some themes in the Special Ops mode. You are greeted to an ending cut scene after the game’s credits that sets up Special Ops mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It’s an interesting idea — continuing the story into another mode, but at the same time leaves you wanting more of the story itself.

Infinity Ward delivered a good story — one that makes you feel an emotional connection to the characters, a connection to the events as they’re ground in reality, and leaves you wondering what’s next for Infinity Ward.

Overall, we’d recommend that you play the campaign. Infinity Ward built a good story that deserves a play through.
