Updates on Call of Duty League Season announced, in-game rewards for watching on the way

Activision Blizzard Esports has announced some updates as the 2020 Call of Duty Leaague Season continues.

The company has announced that CDL In-Game Rewards will become available for players who watch the league is planned and coming soon. This will be the first time that Call of Duty esports is offering rewards for watching since Call of Duty: WWII, where players were given Supply Drops. In Modern Warfare, players will get League themed cosmetics by watching.

Watching Call of Duty League competition will soon earn you exclusive cross-platform in-game Call of Duty League-themed rewards, including new team emblems, sprays, and animated calling cards. Earn in-game rewards by enjoying live Call of Duty League matches on the CDL website or COD companion app while signed into your Activision account. Don’t have an account? Create one here. The company has also announced an expanded Call of Duty League Championship event to now have all 12 teams (versus a small set that was planned). The Championship event will see all teams compete, with Home Series events now having more weight as the teams need wins to get a prime spot for Champs. Champs is set to take place in August 2020, per the announcement.

The tournament format of the Call of Duty League Championship will now feature all 12 teams, as opposed to the original eight-team structure, opening the door to potential upsets and Cinderella runs!Home Series victories now mean more than ever, with League standings being the determining factor on a team’s starting position in the final tournament of the year. 1st and 2nd placed teams in the CDL Standings, for example, will automatically skip the first two rounds of the event’s Winner’s Bracket. The better a team’s regular season record, the closer they get to the illustrious Grand Final. The double-elimination tournament will take place in August 2020.

Prize Pool Distribution for Champs:

With the change of structure, the following redistribution of prize pool earnings has been established:

  • 1st (2020 Champion): $2,000,000
  • 2nd (1 team): $1,000,000
  • 3rd (1 team): $500,000
  • 4th (1 team): $300,000
  • 5th (2 teams): $200,000
  • 7th (2 teams): $125,000
  • 9th (2 teams): $75,000
  • 11th/12th (2 teams, last place): $0

Activision Blizzard has also partnered with Infinity Ward and players for a brand new CDL Warzone Weekend tournament called CDL Warzone Weekends presented by Metro by T-Mobile. This tournament will see all 12 teams dropping into a private, 48 player lobby to see which team is the best and fight for a $10,000 prize pool. This first event will take place at the start of the Seattle Call of Duty League Home Series Sunday action.

With the help of Infinity Ward, the Call of Duty League will be dropping the best Call of Duty players in the world into the hottest game on the planet. All 12 CDL teams will compete (in quads) in an exclusive 48-player lobby to determine who the best professional team is in Warzone. Warzone Weekend is a $10,000 winner-takes-all, live-to-tape broadcast that will debut as the lead-in to the final day of the Seattle Home Series (May 22-24). Follow @CODLeague and each team in the league to learn more about the rosters built for this new entertainment experience.
